History
The initiative started in 1998 by Prof. Dr. Peter Malfertheiner in Magdeburg, Germany. His vision and aim when he designed the Bridging Meeting concept was to create a forum for young clinical investigators from Eastern and Western European countries, where results of their ongoing and completed research is presented. To allow for young Fellows, academic teachers & mentors and industry partners to meet, network, build bridges and build a path into the Future of Gastroenterology.
Prof. Dr. Peter Malfertheiner designed the Bridging Meeting where Professors (academic teachers) from universities and academic institutions from European countries attend along with their fellows. Fellows are given the opportunity to present their original research to the international and distinguished audience and receive constructive feedback for their ongoing endeavors. In addition a EAGEN postgraduate course on the second day provides updates and important developments in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Besides the presentations of research & updates and the promotion of young dedicated researchers, the event offers opportunities for fruitful interactions between individuals and their academic institutions. Over the many years a growing network through this annual event has supported many young prospects, some of which are returning as academic teachers to continue this important work for the Future in Gastroenterology.
